In our family, we always made our Valentines. At a very early age, I learned to cut hearts out of red construction paper and how to add glitter and paper doilies to dress up my creations. It’s no wonder that I still make my Valentines, but now they're edible. XOXO

These Classic Sugar Cookies say “I love you” with every bite. They are sweet and pretty and delicious. The heart shape alone expresses love. Add X’s and O’s, flowers, and tic-tac-toe and you have a dozen perfect homemade Valentines. Sometimes I also include a homemade paper Valentine, but often I let the cookie speak for itself.
Cookie specifics
Classic Sugar Cookie. This classic sugar cookie brings back memories of the Christmas cookies my mother made during the holidays...with a bold vanilla flavor and slightly soft texture, they make me smile every time I eat one.
They are covered and decorated entirely with delicious vanilla glaze. Yes, that’s right...no royal icing on these cookies. The thick vanilla glaze dries very smooth and gives them a soft, romantic finish.

Plate, Box or Bag?
Plate. I piled these onto a love-themed plate and set them out next to the rest of the desserts.
Box. I packaged several dozen in cardboard bakery boxes with a clear window on top so I could give them to friends.
Bags. I also wrapped some cookies individually in clear, food-safe bags, secured with a twist tie and gave them as gifts.
Mailing. For the cookies that I mailed, I used the Priority Mail boxes provided by the Post Office and lots of bubble wrap! In almost all cases, the cookies arrive undamaged. I know the packages are appreciated when they arrive because of the texts I get with all those smiling faces.
What I’ve learned...
These cookies were made with the best ingredients I could find and baked in a small batch of two dozen. I’ve experimented with less expensive ingredients, but have come to the conclusion that flavor is best when I use the best. Why spend all this time baking and decorating if taste and texture are just so-so? Decorating the cookies takes time, but it’s an enjoyable process for me and I know that those who receive them appreciate that. Life is just better when you can share something you love with someone you love. Don’t you agree?
