Sometimes I just have to have someting that’s totally chocolate, with no distractions. This fudgy, dense, decadent cookie topped with dark chocolate frosting is the perfect answer to my question: “Where’s the chocolate?”

Even though I found this cookie on the Nestle’s website, I have to come clean and admit that I use Guittard Special Dark Chocolate Chips instead of the semi-sweet chocolate chips recommended in the recipe. I’m a confirmed dark chocolate lover and make no apologies for that. So feel free to follow the recipe exactly, or bake outside of the box and use the kind of chocolate you like the best. Whatever you decide, you won’t be sorry.
Cookie specifics
Frosted Double Chocolate Cookies. According to the Very Best Baking by Nestle website: “Frosted Double Chocolate Cookies are a chocoholic’s dream cookie. Chocolate frosting tops chocolate cookies laden with chocolate chips.” I agree! And the chocolate meter in these is increased considerably by the use of both cocoa powder and chocolate chips (melted and whole) in the cookie itself, which makes them super chocolate-y. Finally, using brown sugar for part of the sugar in any cookie recipe gives it a delightful chew and helps keep these texture fudgy.
Shape
Round, slightly flattened circles. I use a small cookie scoop to achieve uniform 2" cookies...because I’m a little obsessive about uniform cookies. It’s a blessing and a curse.

Plate, Box or Bag?
Festive Plate. I arranged these cookies on a colorful plate and wrapped the whole thing in clear plastic wrap to transport them to where they needed to be.
Box. My favorite way to gift my cookies is to package them in a cardboard bakery box with a clear window on top that makes the contents visible to anyone who wants to peek. And since the frosting dries hard enough to stack them, I was able to fit almost two dozen into a box.
Bags. Although I didn’t give these cookies out individually, if do I plan to use the cookies as party favors or one-cookie gifts, I usually wrap each one in a clear, food-safe bag, secured with a twist tie. This makes each one look like a little present.
Mailing. Frosted Double Chocolate Cookies travel very well and I mailed some of them to my family far away. I always send my cookies Priority Mail through the U.S. Post Office. I use the boxes provided by the Post Office and lots of bubble wrap. In almost all cases, the cookies arrive undamaged.
What I’ve learned...
These cookies were made with the best ingredients I could find and baked in small batches. I’ve experimented with less expensive ingredients, but have come to the conclusion that flavor is best when I use the best. Why spend all this time baking and decorating if taste and texture are just so-so? Decorating the cookies takes time, but it’s an enjoyable process for me and I know that those who receive them appreciate that. Life is just better when you can share something you love with someone you love. Don’t you agree?
